E-mail suggests League might have swayed D.A. on Britt

By  on December 21, 2015
The same Oct. 21, 2011 e-mail that revealed leaks of information from an ostensibly independent investigation into the management practices of Kill Devil Hills Police Chief Gary Britt also suggests a different scenario of why then-District Attorney Frank Parrish reversed his decision to file a petition seeking Britt’s removal.
Parrish, now deceased, was a pivotal player in actions against Superior Court Judge Jerry Tillett two years ago by the Judicial Standards Commission. An affidavit .....

LegalZoom has settled its twin law suits against the North Carolina Bar. LegalZoom has basically won the battle and the war.
According to Forbes, LegalZoom agreed to have a licensed North Carolina attorney review its online forms and to inform potential customers that its forms are not a substitute for advice from a live attorney. LegalZoom says it was already doing that anyway. In return the State Bar Association appears to be rolling over on the unauthorized practice of law (“UPL”) fight, going so far as to support ......

But most of us felt the kerfuffle between KDH and Superior Court Judge Jerry R. Tillett .....

SCOTUS smiles on nondentist teeth whiteners, allows antitrust action against dentistry board

A North Carolina dental regulatory board made up mostly of dentists doesn’t have state-action immunity in an antitrust action, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled.
The 6-3 decision (PDF) allows a Federal Trade Commission challenge to the board’s clampdown on teeth whitening by nondentists.
