A three-member N.C. State Bar panel rejected a request from prosecutors Monday to find Christine Mumma, head of the N.C. Center on Actual Innocence, guilty of professional misconduct without a full hearing on the allegations.

Mumma, an advocate for the falsely accused, was investigating claims of innocence by a wrongfully convicted man when she took the actions that resulted in the disciplinary hearing ....

Nov. 16 — LegalZoom and the North Carolina State Bar are no longer at loggerheads over whether the company's offer of personalized legal services to consumers amounts to the unauthorized practice of law. A consent decree entered Oct. 22 ends years of state-court UPL litigation between LegalZoom and the state bar. It also puts to bed a federal antitrust suit the company recently filed against the bar.

According to Forbes, LegalZoom agreed to have a licensed North Carolina attorney review its online forms and to inform potential customers that its forms are not a substitute for advice from a live attorney.
