DOJ, FTC Say Legal Documents Software Helps Consumers

Law360, New York (June 13, 2016, 3:43 PM ET) -- Websites and software that automatically generate legal documents benefit consumers by keeping down prices and expanding access to legal services, and North Carolina lawmakers considering legislation in the area should not place overly broad restrictions on them, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission said on Friday.

The N.C. Supreme Court has halted the N.C. State Bar’s disciplining of Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Jerry Tillett for the moment, announcing recently it will hear arguments on whether it’s appropriate for the Bar to discipline a judge for conduct for which he’s already been punished.
